We have just installed MS Exchange Std 2003 on a HP 350ML G5 running Windows Server 2003 as part of a project to remove our email reliance from Big Telco and control our own destiny from in-house. For the moment, we’re still running POP and having the email directed to the client PCs (all Win XP running OL 2003) and storing that email on the server instead of locally as we used to do. Within a week or two, we want to change our MX records to reflect the new IP for our server, thereby bringing full control in-house.
On the face of it, it seems like a wonderful scenario: My shop runs nothing but Win 2003 servers with one of them running Exchange 2003, the others being print server, data storage, etc. All of my client PCs are XP based running Office 2003. In theory I guess, this is just about the simplest you can get for an Exchange 2003 setup. My problem is that though I have followed the MS course 2400C on Implementing and Managing Exchange Server 2003, I don’t have any other material to reference apart from the tutorial manual.
So here’s my question: Based upon your experience, what books/manuals/guides/publishers would you recommend to help someone who wants to effectively manage/tweak/upgrade their Exchange 2003 setup ? Dummies books ? O’Reilly ? MS Press ? SAMS, Coriolus, QUE ? I’m looking for something that won’t be heavy on the brain cells, if you know what I mean, but will allow me to look at an index, or something, and say “Aha ! So that’s the setting I need to modify in order to get the widgetizer to release last night’s mail to this user!” … or some such thing… The last thing I should mention (although I probably don’t have to) is that I suffer from the usual SysAdmin’s disease of Notenoughtimetothinkatall”. Thanks for any and all opinions.
