Need some help

By vindas ·
I'm working on a HP Pavilion 7851, well it have by default a 128 Mb SDRAM PC133, so i wanna to upgrade it, so i bougth a 256 Mb SDRAM PC133 it didn't work, so i put it a 128 Mb SDRAM PC100, it work fine.

Suddenly the computer reboot twice, and the thirth time the machine died on me...

What should i do?

I turn on the computer, but not even the bios screen shows, i've removed (the new, the old, both of them) memory dimms but the computer doesn't do anything.

You must put memory in that is exactly the same speed, latency etc as the memory chip currently in the machine, if you leave the old chip in. Now, if you remove the old memory and just use the PC133, there may be a BIOS setting or Jumper that may need to have been changed.

As far as the machine dying on you, did you remove all power from the unit before installing the new memory? Try unplugging the machine and hitting the powerbutton to drain all residual power in the unit. Wait a few minutes, then try to see if the unit will come back. If that does not work, do the fans power up when you hit the powerbutton? How about the HDD, does the computer beep at you when the system is trying to POST?

That doesn't work at all, the fans are the only thing that seems to be working, the computer doen't beep at all. Isn't even trying to POST

I'd also check with the manufacturer and see if that particular machine supports 256MB memory. Some older machines would only support 128 or smaller.
