Need ti setup new hard drive on Acer Laptop

Locked

by gapenn ·

I have two Acer laptops. One I use the other I do not. The reason I can’t use the other is that I did a factory reset which required the installation dvd’s to restore. I did not make a backup copy when I purchased. (Lesson Learned) I called Acer and they sold me a set of DVD’s for $20. The installation failed on the last DVD. I called them back and they wanted to sell me a tech support contract. Since the laptops are almost twins I thought I would just do an image of one to the other. Is this doable and if so how would I go about completing?
Thanks

Try reposting this in the ‘Q&A’ forum. The ‘Discussion’ forum is for matters of general discussion, not specific problems in search of a solution. The ‘Water Cooler’ is for non-technical discussions. You can submit a question to ‘Q&A’ here:

There are TR members who specifically seek out problems in need of a solution. Although there is some overlap between the forums, you’ll find more of those members in ‘Q&A’ than in ‘Discussions’ or ‘Water Cooler’.

Be sure to use the voting buttons to provide your feedback. Voting a ‘+’ does not necessarily mean that a given response contained the complete solution to your problem, but that it served to guide you toward it. This is intended to serve as an aid to those who may in the future have a problem similar to yours. If they have a ready source of reference available, perhaps won’t need to repeat questions previously asked and answered. If a post did contain the solution to your problem, you can also close the question by marking the helpful post as “The Answer”. .

Now assuming that some form of Windows is involved here it’s not good enough that these devices are Almost Twins they have to be twins and be identical in the Hardware Department or Windows will require a rebuild to get working. Unless the Hardware is identical meaning the Same M’Board the HAL File Hardware Abstraction Layer in Windows will prevent the OS from loading as it will lack the correct Hardware Drivers.

While Memory Size, CPU Speed and HDD Size can be different the M’Board must be identical or it’s not going to work.
