Need to change NT volume serial number

By jcho ·
I need to find a program that changes volume serial number on NT machine. I've found utilities that change the serial number of a volume on 95, 98 and ME machines, but failed to find one for NT. I've read an article that indicate I can use NT Resource Kit's DskProbe.exe. I've tried but can't figure it out. Does anyone know how to use DskProbe.exe enough to tell me how to change the volume serial number? Or know any other way to change it?

Hi,,

you can use disk Diskprobe for changeing the signature of a Disk. I found ftedit very usefull to get all signatures from disks at a time.
Start dskprobe.exe and select from VIEW Menu the NTFS Bootsector of the Disk, change their the signature.

Hope it helps

if you go to http://www.sysinternals.com, download their volumeid utility. Its very simple to use. From a command prompt you enter:

volumeid d: 1234-ABCD

That's it. Good luck.
