Net Bios IPX pros/cons on XP

By BHunsinger ·
We have a customer with an old Hawking Tech printserver that only uses IPX NetBios protocols to work. We just upgraded 2 machines to WXP Home on a peer to peer. Is there any reasong not to add the NWlink IPX/SPX?Netbios compatable transport protocol?

Are you sure there isn't a firmware upgrade to enable IP?

If this thing is that friggin old, why can't they replace it with something that supports IP at the least? Anyhow, if all this thing supports is IPX and uses Netbios to identify itself with, then you have no choice but to conform to it by enabling IPX/SPX with Netbios support, but realize that IPX/SPX is an outdated protocol that was prone to broadcasts storms from the SAP packets that were generated to advertise services back in the days of Netware 3.x and 4.x. It is what it is and you have to conform to it or replace it.
