No. NET STOP servicename does not work on a remote machine.
There are some tools in the Resource Kit that will stop a service on a remote system, though.
SC.EXE, SERVICES.VBS and SVCMON.EXE will all start/stop a service on a remote machine.
Thereare also 3rd party tools, like Dameware NT Utilities, that will do this also.

hope this helps

You can' use the net command by itself, but you can in conjuction with the telnet server built into every version of Windows 2000. Just make sure the Telnet Service is set to automatically start (w/ Computer Management) and then telnet to the PC. The Telnet server in W2K uses NTLM authentication, so you won't even be asked for a password. Once there you can issue just about any command-line command you wish.

One thing to remember, though: Telnet traffic is cleartext, so you won't want todo this over any network segments that you don't control (IE the Internet)

"net stop <service name>" command works only on the local computer. However if you want to do this on a remote computer, then make sure that you have an Administrators a/c on that machine and then check out this URL.

Am sure, this will solve your problem.
