Net logon across routers

By darrenb ·
I have 1 PDC and 6 subnets on the other side of the router. On the PDC I can add these users from these subnets. I can see their services etc....in server manager but when i try to add them to the domain from these subnets at a local level it cannot find the controller. I use WINS and have tried using lmhosts files.

Net logon across routers

by Hasse MCSE/Brainbench In reply to Net logon across routers

Hi!

In order for wins to work the wins server must run on the local net and not other side of router.

lmhosts will work, but you need to activate the networking layer on the workstation to use lmhosts file.

Right click on Network icon on desktop and choose preferenses click on protocols choose TCP/IP and click on preferences, now click on DNS tab and check the checkbox where it sais use lmhosts file.

In the lmhosts file fill this in:
x.x.x.x myPDC #PRE #DOMAIN:myDOMAIN

Where x.x.x.x is the ip for the server.
