netgear FVS318 - DHCP + authentication?

By cj- ·
a Netgear Prosafe FVS318 firewall/vpn router
its been upgraded to firmware V2.3 Feb. 5 2004
the problem is: the isp its trying to connect to (via ADSL)
uses FHCP and requires authentication
come to find out that this router doesnt allow both-
in the 'basic settings' the option is does your connection require a login'
if you choose no, it allows you to choose dhcp or static ip, and dns location
and whichever you choose, yea or nay on dhcp, it reflects that on the 'router status' tab

if you choose 'yes i do need to login', you can enter isp name, account name, domain name (usually blank), the account login, password and timeout
then dns again

the PROBLEM: it automatically chooses NO for dhcp and doesnt let you choose ip method

how can i tell it to use dhcp *and* login to the isp?

in the documentation it looks like thats how it is supposed to work.... but there has to be a workaround somewhere
