Netlogon.chg corrupted

By dtrivison ·
I've had the netlogon.chg go corrupt a second time after deleting it and bring the PDC and BDC back up to create fresh ones.

What might be going on here?

Netlogon.chg corrupted

by Joseph Moore In reply to Netlogon.chg corrupted

This can happen if your PDC is running "severely short of drive space." Please read Technet article Q215859 on this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q215859
(please remove any spaces)

Other than that, read article Q173882 that talks about this file:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q173882

Hope this helps.

Netlogon.chg corrupted

by dtrivison In reply to Netlogon.chg corrupted

My netlogon problem was complex. It began with a report of corrupt netlogon.chg file. After that was corrected, netlogon still did not run. Then I had to reset the secure channel on my BDC. I did that with an NT resource kit utility called, nltest. The netdom utility was also useful for information, but when I tried to reset the channel with netdom it failed. I was not successful resetting the channel with netdom. Nltest did work. I also apparently had a problem with Wins. I cleared the Wins cache, but the BDC did not reappear in the Wins database. I had to manually add an entry for it. After all these steps were done, then netlogon began to function normally.

If you are reading this, I hope it helps you. Because it took me days of researching and trying different solutions before I finally got this problem resolved. Every time I thought I had a solution, it was not enough and I had to try more.
