Hey there...

Looking for an SMTP virus scanner that will work with NetMail.

Does Norton Anti-virus do SMTP scanning?

Check the Novell Netmail cool solutions site. In the FAQ (http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/netmail/features/a_nims_faq_nm.html) you'll find the following:

174. Is there a virus scanning solution for NIMS?
Yes, the NIMS 3.0.2 update added a virus scanning solution that integrates with McAfee NetShield, CA InoculateIT and Symantec CarrierScan. See the NIMS 3.0.2 README.

The desktop version of Norton AV can do scanning of of incoming/outgoing mail, but that happens independently of the server.

NetMail (formerly called NIMS) supports 3 major AV packages at the server. CA InnoculateIT & McAfee netSheild run as NLMs on the netware server. NetMail also works with Symantec' (norton) CarrierScan, but CarrierScan runs only on an Windows server, so the NetMail server has to send files to it for scanning.

FWIW, I had a great deal of trouble with CA innoculate. Not technical trouble, but trouble with the company. They would only sell it to me if I licensed it for *all* my users. We use Sophos on the desktop and I was no inclined to change.

McAfee was much more accomodating, the price was reasonable, and it's worked very well for us for 2 years.

We don't have any windows servers, so Symantec CarrierScan wasn't considered.
