netmap.inf error

By tcdahl ·
I have a single server (Dell Poweredge 600sc) windows 2000 domain that I need to upgrade to Windows 2003 Standard R2. Adprep for both the forest and the domain completed with out any problems from the second CD.

But when I try to perform the actual update, I receive the following error:

?Error reading information from netmap.inf from OEM directories pre-set by the Administrator?

After that it will only let me perform a new install and not an upgrade. I have tried importing a generic netmap.inf file but am not sure where it should reside. I have also edited the device path in the registry all with no avail.

Any Ideas where to go fro here?

I would search for the original INF

and then read it.

The problem may be this: Was the original install on the hardware an OEM Dell install? And you are trying to upgrade with a retail copy of 2k3? There may be specific items required which are not available in the new OS. I would go to the Dell support page for your server and download any software and drivers available. Install as needed. That INF file may be for a driver that was blown away in the new install.
