Netscape Messenger Attachment problem

Recently on a couple different PCs, when trying to open a Word or Excel attachment in Netscape Messenger 4.79, it hangs and then freezes and I have to close Netscape all together. It only happens when opening mail on the server. I can open attachments locally. Anyone have any suggestions?
