By ccb ·
Does anyone know of a best known method for deploying an SOE and applications on a Netware 5.1 LAN with NT4.0 workstation clients?

Netware 4.11/NT4.0 client SOE Deployment

by erikdr In reply to Netware 4.11/NT4.0 client ...

'Best' is a dubious term as there are two streams, and both have their advantages.

1) Start immediately with software distribution (e.g. Novell ZENWorks for Desktops), and install Windows NT and the SOE settings through a PXE bootrom push from the admin machines.
2) Start with cloning (e.g. Norton Ghost,DriveImage or the more limited cloning in ZENWorks) and then, through the cloned sw distrib agent, keep uptodate for the future.

Disadvantage of cloning is problems with the SID (you might need SysPrep and tools to automate the SID assignment), and the fact that you need both the cloning tool and the distrib tool afterwards. (The bundled tools with Norton, Altiris and others are usually too bad - only for snapshots, not MSI or responsefile). Also one image is needed per type of PC.
Advantage of cloning is faster install including all initial applications, especially when you can use multicasting.

In your case, if you have the budget, go for ZfD 3.0 (about USD 75 per PC). Hasboth cloning and reasonably good sw distrib, so you can postpone making the choice between the mechanisms...

Hope thiz helpz,
