Netware ClientNo grace logins dialog box

By shuff2000 ·
My network consists of Novell 4.11 servers and NT 4.0 servers. With Win95 clients there are no problems logging in as long as the passwords and usernames match for both Novell and NT.

With Windows 2000 clients, the NT password logon dialog box comes up first, followed by the Novell client logon box. The Novell splash screen comes up and goes away when it sees the username and passwords are the same with NT and Novell. This works fine until the Novell password expires.

When the Novell password expires there is no message stating that the user has 6 grace logins left. They only get a message when their password has expired and there are no remaining grace logins.

I am using NW Client v4.8 and did try a patch that I found on Novell's website. This didn't help any. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Under Novell Client Properties, Advanced Settings tab, make sure Receive Broadcast Messages is On; on the Advanced Menu Settings, make sure Enable Login Dialog is on.

Network Neighborhood->properties-> click on the network adapter and make sure "primary network logon" is set to Novell Netware Client.

I see you rejected answer 2. The problem is that the NT login will be the controlling software if you let it run first. It *CANNOT* control the Novell password and you will be stuck with the situation as it exists. Basically, you can't have your cake and eat it too. If you want to be alerted to the password expiring, then the Novell client must be the primary login. It *CAN* control the NT login. You didn't state why you need the NT login first oither than you simply want to see it. If it is a Domain issue, then NDS for Domains is the answer or try seperate passwords so the Novell credentials don't automatically pass.
