Netware Migration to Win2k

By NextGen ·
How do I move data from a netware Server(4.10) to a Windows 2000 server and retain all the links (Excel, Word, and AutoCad)that were created and pointing to the Netware server? I called Microsoft and they stated that you would have to move each fileseparately and then adjust the pointer manually. We are talking Thousands of files here. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

you may be able to do it by naming the 2000 server the same as the novell server and create a directory structure like on the novell server. Create shares called sys or vol1...
most links in ms apps save as unc links, so this is the only way I canthink of to do this.

Hi, I just went through this exact thing with just over 200 GB of data and about 850,000 files. It turns out that the risk here is when users have macros that read and write to other files AND this is done with the server name hard coded in the path. If the link to the other document is with a drive mapping then this will not break as long as you keep the same directory structure. My advice is to copy all of the data at once (use a tool like robocopy) and keep the folder structure the same.Don't try to do any clean-up of directory names.
