Network Admin Password

By ndoorfirewrks1 ·
I have volunteered to manage a computer lab located in a low income senior citizen housing community. The previous temp tech has left things in a mess. Several attempts to reach him have been futile. My plea for help is this...he has password protected several functions as the Network Admin. How would I be able to bypass, disable then reset password? To close to hacking? What are my alternatives? Reinstall OS?
By the way OS is Windows 98, 6 PCs plus server. Locked out of Control Panel, cannot Add/Remove programs or set display properties. Any and all advice welcome and appreciated.

Assuming your server is NT based (if not, give details and I'll try to help further)...take a look here:

Delete spaces in the URLs. Good luck...hope this helps!

After you copy the URL a space or a %20 maybe gets inserted in the URL when you paste it into your browser. Delete any spaces or such characters from the URL for the page to be loaded.

Its been awhile but i remember doing this to my pc's from an nt server while taking the nt server study exam. there is a way to control what pc's can do. he has installed a utility on the nt box that can remote pc's. to control win98 there is a utility that had to be installed on the win98 pc's that is found on the win98 install disk. You will need to find the program on the NT server. its some admin util. I can't tell you the utility name because my nt server hd just crashed. I don't know a way around it but I suspect your win98 is using profiles. and those profiles are holding you up. I would try rebooting the pc in safe mode and not logging into the network. that try to get to control panel and create a new user that is not controlled

I use ERD Commander for the Server if you have windows NT or Windows 200, you can get it from www.wininternals.com, great tool for resettng the password. On the 98 machines, you will need a program called poledit, it is located on the windows 98 Cd,This will allow you to give and deney access to windows features as the control panel, then search the hardrive for *.pwl and delete any file that it finds, this will get rid of the logon passwords.
