Network Browsing Problem in Windows XP

By prasadiritty ·
I am facing a problem in my client place they r having two Windows XP Pro systems connected by a crossover cable, both of the systems are login as administrator with blank password, One system is connecting to the internet by dialup and is sharing the connection to the other system and it is working fine, but the problem is the dialing system can't access the other system i mean can't open any shared resources in that system whereas the other system can access all the shared resources in the dialing system. When the dialing system trying to access the other system it is giving an error message that "Access Denied".Please send me a solution for the same.

Admin Passwords or Workgroup

Make sure that both computers are using the same exact Admin login ID and that both systems using the same exact password. If the paswords for the adnministrator account are different on the two machine you will not be able to access resources on the other computer.

Also make sure that both are on the same workgroup name. Right-click on My Computer and select Properties. Go to the Computer Name tab and click the change button at the bottome. Make sure that both computers list the same Workgroup name here.

Folder options

I have had good luck by doing this on the machines that won't share...
open windows explorer, go to tools, folder options; select the view tab; scroll to the bottom of the list, and deselect "Use simple file sharing(recommended)"; click on the Apply to all folders button and then ok.

That should take care of your problems.
