network cards

I have a Packard bell imedia 6350 with a 1G AMD-K7-2 chip running WinME. The motherboard is a Halley (MS-6340). I am trying to set up a broadband connection via a cable modem. The installers have tried to fit 2 network cards - Netgear FA311/312 and a 10/100 Lan card (EP-320X-S1). Both fail to install - the system does not recognise the card when restarted. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

Here is a link to a hardware compatability list (HCL) for Win ME

http://www.activewin.com/winme/winmehcl.txt

Before you try a NIC check this list, if it is on the list then it should work with ME.

Save yourself a lot of trouble by getting a router and connecting all pc's to it. I got the SMC Barricade 7004br for $50 after rebate. Cable connection goes into the router. All pc's go into the router. All pc's can talk to each other and accessthe net via the cable modem. Bonus-the router includes a print server too.

Much more reliable and easy to work with than 2 cards in one machine (I used to have that setup but got sick of the hassles).

Netgear FA310tx is compatible but if I were you I would go with a 3com product such as 3C509B. But how are you installing it? Instead of hoping for PnP to detect it try running the installtion software that came with the card or installing it yourself using the "have disk" routine.
