Network Configuration

by tdicks264742 . Updated 19 years, 10 months ago

Hello all, this is a bit complicated, but here goes:

My network is set up behind a router/cable modem. I have a server runnning Routing and Remote access and able to succesfully establish a VPN connection from within and outside my network. Unfortunately, because the DHCP service is not running on the server, I beleive this is preventing me from accessing any resources via the VPN connection (Exchange Server[same machine]). So, I try to start the DHCP service, but when I succesfully configure it and start the service, I loose all internet connectivity in my network.

My question is this: If I am going to properly run the DHCP server in my network should I have the DHCP server running in front of the rest of my network, acting as the router? Is there some other reason, that I am unaware of, that is causing this dilemma. Thanks!

More Info:

I have turned of DHCP on the router.

PPTP and IPSec are allowed to the server through the Router config.

Am able to successfuly connect to Exchange through the standard LAN network connection to the server.

All this is to reinforce that, I believe, the problem is that the VPN is not being properly served because of the DHCP issue.
