Network connect problems with Win2000

by shanghai sam . Updated 24 years, 7 months ago

When setting up new win2000 pc’s they are anable to join the domain. This is not a problem with win95 or win98 pc’s.

The error is “The specified domain does not exist or could not be contacted”.

Yet drive mapping can be made and network resources are visible under My Network Places.

These attempts have been from a site with a BDC. I can take a win2000 pc to site the PDC lives at and it connects ok!

The PDC and BDC are both NT4 machines and can be successfully pinged from the win2000 pc.

Any ideas on how to network win2000 pc’s without being at the same site as the PDC?
