network connection between 2 NT boxes (r

By highlander718 ·
I have a small Internet (frontpage) application (on a NT box = NT1) that uses some databases (SQL)residing on another one (also NT=NT2). Recently I had to reinstall the Token Ring card on the NT2, everything looks fine but the application on NT1 times out all the time ever since. More than that from the NT2 I can't even access the web page on NT1 anymore. All the other wkstn's can access the web page, but when launching that particular app., the operation times out.
I'm thinking maybe I missed some services or protocols when I reinstaled the NIC on NT2?
By the way the NT1 is on Ethernet (it's a mixed network).
NT2 has and definitely used to have only the TCP/IP protocol. I know the changes has to be made on NT2, but I'm out of ideas for now.

ring speed looks good, frame size is max. 4216, ping is working fine, local loop OK.
the servers are not in the same workgroup (actually one is in a domain, the other in a workgroup) but it was like this before, when it worked. And from NT1 I can see and work with any shared files or folders on NT2.

token ring cards are out of date now days.
ether net is the way. I would suggest changing card first if you can not. Then try the domain server and add the workstation name nt2 to it.
nt2 must be part of the domain to work right.
work group will not cut the mustard.
got to network neighborhood properties and change
from work group to domain.

This is your lucky day. I entered the forum to close the question, as I solved the problem earlier in the day. And yes, even if definitely the NT1 was not in the domain (I didn't touch it at all) changing it to the domain helped. I was actualy trying to switch the NT2 to Ethernet, it did not work (for some other exernal reasons) and than I had to go back to TR.
But here you are with just the same answer.
I will have to grant some points to one of the previous respondents to, look for a newthread on this forum.
Thanks,
