Network connection service hangs SP2

Hello,
This is the first time I have used the discussion forums so I don’t know what reply e-mail address it is showing. My correct address is johng1@pacbell.net. Thanks.
I have a Sony PIII notbook running Windows XP Pro. I tried three different times to install SP2. Everything seems to work except that the Network Connection Service Hangs on Starting.
Anyone know what could be the problem?
I diabled Symantec Antivirus before installing the service pack. I also installed all of the updates on Microsoft’s Update Site before installing SP2.
I have uninstalled SP2 back to SP1 and this service works fine.
