    Network connection unplugged

    Locked

    by kevmyles ·

After changing the administrator password on a notebook computer with XP, I get an “Network connection unplugged”. I tried all the usual stuff like checking the cable connection and plugging it into directly into the router. I even restored the OS to an earlier date. Can someone help me out? Most things I’ve read point to the NIC. What do you think?

Are you able to access the network still? It sounds funny, but I have seen this problem earlier, and it was refering to an additional network adapter, which was in my docking station. So, whenever the laptop was not docked, it would bring that “Network Unplugged”, whereas I was still able to use my PCMCIA card to be connected on the LAN.
      Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I still could not access the network. The laptop was not docked and there aren’t any other network devices attached to it. I think I’ll try a USB ethernet adapter and see if that can get me on the network. Any other suggestionswelcome!

Are you able to ping to adapter? Ping 127.0.0.1. If this respondeds then your card is most likely ok. Also, check the drivers.

      Hope this helps.
