How do I use the Service option(click add on network dialog box, then Service) in Network dialog box in Windows 98 to share printers and files on a Novell Netware 4.2 network?

1. First, If you already have "File and Printer Saharing for Microsoft Networks" installed it must be removed. Only one instance of file and printer sharing can be installed. You must also have the "Client for Netware Networks" installed. Then you click Add> Service> Add. Select Microsoft as the manufacturer on the left side of the selection window and "File and Printer Sharing for Netware Networks" on the left as the service. Click OK.
2. The Printer or file must be shared and permissions given. You can do this by Right clicking on the resource in question and selecting Sharing from the menu.
3. Once this is done, you should be able to view the resource from other computers in the network. If it is a printer it may require setting the printer up on the remote computer that will be using the device.

Good Luck,
Ken

Do you have one or more 'login scripts' defined in Netware? If you do, it's probably easier to install Novell's Client for Netware and have it run the 'login script' which should contain the appropriate MAP and CAPTURE commands. This client softwareshould work fine with Client for Microsoft Networks (for peer-peer sharing).
