Network Error Message in XP

By qhcomputingny ·
Hello,

One of my clients has a Windows XP workstation that is grabbing it's internet connection through a Linksys router. Everything seems to be working good with the workstation, except there always seems to be an error message that says, Network Cable Unplugged, and then right after that message is displayed, it shows that the network connection comes right back up by displaying Local Area Connection, 10MB. He doesn't seem to lose his internet connection when this happens, but it is mind-boggling as to why this message continues to pop up and go away on a regular basis. You see it once every five-ten minutes it seems. Any ideas on what causes this or what can fix this?

sounds like a problem at the physical layer. Could be the network card, cable/connectors, or the linksys router. Try plugging directly into the dsl/cable modem, changing the cat5 cable.

I recently had the same problem. Started after a brown out. I had no access to the internet and the error message kept saying that the network cable was unplugged. I check all the cables to the PC's and all looked well. I then check the cables to the router and noticed that the lights were not flickering correctly. I then uplugged the router and modem and then plugged them back in, reset the modem and rebooted the PC's.

Did it fix the problem when you tried that?
