Network Hangs

By maduca ·
I am have a network of about 30 workstations running windows 98 and a server that is running netware 5. We use a DOS based program called SAGA also. The problem is that most of the machines hang when you shut down, of course resulting in the employee who cannot wait to go home hitting the power button. I would like to stop the hanging that occurs if there is a solution please let me know.

well... you just asked the one question to which millions wish would go away. Microsoft itself doesn't know. There are about a million messages flying around the internet about how to solve it....

But it's not that bad.

First, kill any agressive virus checkers you have. This seems to be the number 1 problem.

second, download the win98 shutdown patch. you can get it at microsoft, called 4756us8.exe

third, turn off all power management

fourth, turn off fast shutdown

fifth,turn off sounds ( close windows )

These 5 seem to help about 50% of the time.

the rest ?????
