Network Monitoring

By david_mahler ·
Help! I have some application issues and am trying to troubleshoot my way through them. I have a rack with 8-10 network switches in it. Is there a reasonable way to monitor all of the switches from one place? I have a combination of Cisco, HP, and 3Com switches and would like to be able to get an idea of what the traffic is on each port/switch to rule that out as a cause of the application issues I am having.

Any help would be great.

Thank you

Use MRTG

I assume that all your switches are manageble?
If so, you can enable the SNMP function in all your switches and use a PC (windows base or Unix) to act as the loghost. Please check on the website http://www.mrtg.org for more details on monitoring the network traffic
