network neighbourhood

By jaleel_mohammed ·
Hi,
When I go to "network neighbourhood", many times I am not getting the directory listing or the directory listing is partially available. Inorder to get the same, either I have to go through "Tools - Find - Computer" option or reboot the system itself.can anybody help me in resolving this.

It sounds like to me that you need to add the WINS service on your NT server(if you have one). Once WINS is enabled on the server, and you have rebooted the server, add the WINS IP Address to your local machines using the WINS tab in the network properties of TCP/IP. Enter the IP address of the server to both the primary and secondary fields (if primary and secondary is an option - sometimes there is only one). Hopefully this will help your network browsing. One more thing, you only see the Windows 9x computers that have file and print sharing enabled. If your 9x machines aren't sharing then they won't show up in your network neighborhood list. Good Luck.

When a pc boots it announce itself to the network but it can take about 12-48 minutes for it to be seen in the browsing list of the server ( it's in the exam topic) .My teacher told be once, "real men don't browse" :)
