Locked

Network Neighbourhood Icon

By nhoek ·
I am wondering how to restore or bring back the network neighbourhood icon. One of our tech. personnel tried to lock down internet explorer on some of our workstations and in doing so we lost our Network Neigbourhood icons. The computers can log onto the network ok.

Any ideas on how to bring that back?

I have tried removing the client for MS Networks and reinstalling it and that did not work.

Install Tweak UI, if it isn't already. Double click on it in the control panel. Click on the desktop tab. Select Network Neighborhood checkbox.

ABSOLUTELY NO NEED TO INSTALL ANY EXTRAS!
Just open Windows Explorer from the Start/Programs menu and go down to the bottom of the tree. There you'll see your dearest Network Neighborhood icon. All you need is to right-click on it and drag'n'drop to your desktop. You'll see the option "Create shortcut" -- and that's all!..
Good Luck.

Placing a shortcut on the desktop is a usable 'workaround',but it doesn't put the original network neighborhood icon back on the desktop, which is what the original question asked. TWEAK UI will put the original icon back on the desktop. TWEAK UI is a powerful registry front end utility which allows you to customize Win98 without direct registry editing. The TweakUI icon should be in the control panel. If it isn't, you can install it from the \tools\ResKit\Powertoy folder of your Windows 98CD-ROM.
