Network Passwords

By macmmu ·
I'm trying to share a printer (Win XP OS) with a workgroup client on the network. The network consist of NT4 service pack 6a and a single domain. The pc in the workgroup can get to the servername through the printer wizard and then receives a request for a network password. There has to be a way to share resources between XP and 98, but I'm new to XP.

First, the xp box must have the same user accounts and passwords the 98 machine have. You may also have to enable the guest account on the xp box.

Make sure they are on the same workgroup.

Have file and print sharing enabled in 98 machines as well as the xp box

Make sure you have no firewalls stopping you from making the connection.

humm let me get this straight, a NT4 service pack 6a server with a domain and a W98 client. Then a Windows XP machine [that has the printer attached to it] that belongs to a workgroup. Your trying to share the printer on the XP box with a W98 computer on the NT4 domain??? is that right??? If so, then join the XP box to the NT4 domain. Workgroup and domain are not synonymous.

To: D.R. The Corporate Group - No, I didn't explain my question clearly. The xp box is in the domain and the win98 box must remain in the workgroup. I need to print to the xp box from the 98 box. Sorry, macmmu
