Network Printer Problem

By renea.skelton ·
I have a network printer installed and everyone else can map to it except for one individual who is receiving the following error: "Handle is unavailable." No problems with the network and I even uninstalled and reinstalled the printer from his hard drive. Any ideas or suggestions?!

Network Printer Problem

Some more details might be helpful.
Type of network. Is it Novell, Windows, etc.?

IP addressing or Jet Direct or what for the printers?

Type \ model of printer.

OS's that are on the network, what OS's work and what is the OS of the one that doesn't work?

Is the user printing from a standard Windows program or something else?

Please post a comment with more information that we might be able to help you solve this problem.

Network Printer Problem

I found only one site when I did some searches for you error message "Handle is unavailable." It came up at this site:

(no spaces in the URL)

It went into TAPI errors, ports, and com ports.
I would suggest that once the printer is set up on the pc that you check the system to see that it's printing parallel (yes, I know it's going to the network) and not through the com port(s). Check the BIOS to make sure that the parallel ports are enabled andbi-directional. Your problem seems to be that the communication with the printer is disabled somehow and it's at the pc, not the printer as others can print to it. Go to the printer applet under Start, Settings, Printers; right click on the printerand go to Properties to see what settings are there--make them the same as one of the PC's that can print to that printer.
