network printers

yes, this may be a simple question,but , if two pc’s and a printer are all plugged into a network switch.can this printer be used by both pc’s in a direct connection fashion,while having the driver installed on both pc’s?i mean without having to install the driver on one pc and then sharing it to the other pc,where the first pc needs to remain on all the time to do it.
