Hello all! Im having some problems with setting up a home network. I have 2 computers joined by a cross over cable. Both are setup exactly the same, running XP Pro but they are unable to see each other. I am very confused as if I connect either computer to my laptop, the computers network fine so they are both obviously setup correctly. Does anyone have any ideas to what it could be? Thanks, James

Check for any firewalls. Also make sure the guest account is on. You might wanna try giving them static ips give one 192.168.0.1 and the other 192.168.0.2 and no gateway. Also share the c drive if you have it shared unshare it and reshare it. The go to right click my computer select properties then mange, then services and applications, then services look for computer browser stop and restart it that way it refreshes. You should be fine after that.
Make sure the Workgroup name on both computers is the same.
Make sure you have user accounts for for everyone setup on both computers with the same user names, passwords and group memberships.
There are settings in Local Policies that can interfere with sharing. You can see your local policies by going to Administrative Tools in the programs menu or the Control Panel.
In addition to the above (especially setting shares and workgroup naming), also check your network protocols. For file sharing you might find NetBEUI helpful.
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
