I am running several windows 2000 machines sharing a DSL connection with a wireless hub. I can ping all of the machines but am unable to share files. File and print sharing for windows is enables, as is TCP/IP and Client for Microsoft Networks. Any suggegstions?

Did you make the drives or folders shared also? The files/drives need to shared also. Also need to set permissions to them also. I also had this problem with another user. After making the drives/files shared with permissions. The problem went away.

Yes, several folders are shared with the proper permissions. Note: this problem is only intermitent. I logged off the XP machine and now the two 2000 machines see each other no problem.

If you are logged in the network as common user (simple user) you don’t have the right to share folders – meaning the “Sharing …” option is not available. If this is the case, change the users to power users or create a share as administrator on that local computer.

Ok,… Home DSL, shared with 2k’s / xp machine. Yes, if you have done the shares only one more thing you need to do.

Create a local user on each pc that the other pc’s log into.

(I.E. if pc one logs in as “GOD”, you must create a local user “GOD” with the same passowrd on the other machines. if pc two logs in as “HAMPSTER”, you must create a local user “HAMPSTER” with the same passowrd on the other machines.

      It will work.

      good luck.
