Network Problems

By nu4ever ·
I have an employee who is having problems with WordPerfect. I work in a law firm and yes we use WordPerfect 12. We also use Worldox to save our files on the server. When she creats a new document then saves it. The lawyer will overlook the document and have her make some changes. When she goes back to make changes to the orginal document it will automatically go back to what the orginal document was. She starts to make the change and before she gets a chance to save the document it changes back. This is a wierd one if anyone can help that would be great.

We use WordPerfect X3...

by Darryl~ Moderator In reply to Network Problems

so I'm not sure if that's a glitch with 12 or not....it almost sounds like it's reverting to a "backup" copy.

Has she tried saving the file to a different location (not on the network....like her Desktop or My Documents) then make the changes & copy it back to the network location?

a thought....

I have no idea about WordPerfect (never used it), so this is a stab in the complete dark.

It almost sounds like it could be pulling the data from the local cache. The local cache will not have the updated data... I might looking how the PC is storing "offline files"/local cache. Also I would check out exactly what she is doing.

**Reminder, just a stab in the dark**

That's similar to what I was thinking about

reverting to a backup copy....WordPerfect is very similar to Word...you can set it to backup your file every xx minutes etc.....I like your cache idea better though!

its all the same...

back up/local cache... just different names :).

I think we were saying basically the same thing.

Data is pulled from the cache (save on bandwidth)/offline files, opened, then checks for the most recent document, then updates. Could be a result of a slightly slower network, or a really busy server/NAS...

Thanks guys for your replies. How do I check the cache that you were talking about?

We use WordPerfect X3...

by nu4ever In reply to We use WordPerfect X3...

We are using worldox and it saves the files in a database so everyone can acces them. I have had her save it to the desktop and it's fine but we need to have the files in Worldox so that it gets backed up.

The first thing I'd check is the Save location.

It's an easy thing to check on both computers. My thinking is that perhaps the lawyers Save location somehow was changed but then I'm a simple minded man and it may well be something else. :)

Save location

by nu4ever In reply to The first thing I'd check ...

The lawyers don't save anything. The employee does and it's on her computer. Sorry If I didn't make that clear.

I'd dig into the page below.

It looks as if their problem is similar to yours where deletions (changes) are restored to their work.
