Network Recorder /Network CDwriter

By COsloot ·
I see network recorders on the market that are advertised for $1500.00 They have an 8GB drive and 8X cdwriter. It is a shared device where people can leave there files to be written to Disk. Is there anything outstanding or could I not build my own computer with cd-writer nic card and share it over the net?

Your question is fairly vague, but I'll try. If you have several users who all want separate cd's burned on a daily basis, someone will have to manually swap cd's in a single drive recorder, this seems less than ideal. If you had an inexpensive networked file server you could buy a multiple cd writer rack that can handle several cd's at once, and you could write script to burn certain directories to specific drives at specific times. Look also at www.snapserver.com They have 40GB for 1800. Remember, a cd only holds 540 MB. DVDs hold 4.4 GB. Does that help?
Scott.
