Network Search Stalling

By moberg.jeff ·
I am having a problem searching my network storage. I am on a domain using XP Pro and am trying to search our network storage server for certain files. Everytime I do this it finds a few files and then just stops and eventually becomes non responsive. Other computers are able to search the network storage with no problem, but I can not. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A couple of things to check.

First make sure that you don't have any old drive mappings on your PC. This can sometimes cause lag as the machine tries to look at places that don't exist.

Next make sure that your NIC is hard coded to the correct speed. Most networks are 100/Full. Sometime the auto negotiate can be a problem.

And if none of that helps you might try disabling the virus scanner for a moment to test your access speed. If the program has become corrupt it can cause serious lag as it scans each file. If this is the case you will want to rinstall the Vscan program. DON'T get rid of it, just reinstall it. I'd hate to see you back out here asking how to recover from some trojan on your PC.

Good luck
