For the past three days my Network has been slowing down,it works fine for a while then it slows down, when that happens I ping various IP addresses and I lose 50% or 75% of the packets.Does anyone have any solution to this problem? Thanks in advanced.

network slow

Things that may cause this include:

- servers on a hub instead of a switch. Put all commonly accessed devices on a switch if possible.
- Once on a switch, force servers to 100MB full duplex (another reason to be on a switch - hubs don't accept full duplex)
- I'm assuming IP traffic here, but look at other protocols if you are running them - IPX is rather chatty and can create lots of noise.
- Perhaps the devices you are pinging are suffering internal bottlenecks. Again, change to 100MB full duplex if possible, add RAM, expand paging/swap files (on a different hard drive than the OS system files if possible).

I'm betting that it's probably the switch issue. Once your servers get segmented to their own switch port most of the latency will clear up.

Hope that helps,

that happens to everybody. it depends on a lot of things. switches, hubs, traffic, bottlenecks, napster... does it happen at a certain time every day? or maybe a bad wire? too much traffic. netbeui? check one thing at a time. isolate it, see if it works, then go to the next. usually takes a year to fix
