how do you find what speed network is running

This is a very difficult question as the "network" runs at different speeds all over the place. If you are tlaking about your WAN connection, there are tools out there to test latency and throughput. If you are talking about between two systems through a switch, hub, or crossover cable, that's different. Could you tell me more about your network and what you are trying to accomplish?

can u try the command " tcpdump -i ethx " where x must b replaced with the ethenet number on ur Linux system n then it will show the link type n operating speed also. i hope this will work for u.
