I have a Novell Netware 3.12 (patched to 3.2) network with W95 ans W98 desktops all using Novell Client 3.3 with SP3 applied.
I have a 10/100 switch and 10/100 hub. i have manually set all network cards to Ethernet_II and fixed speeds and whether half or full duplex.
If I run ping or ipxping on the server to the majority of machines, it is not unusual to see “speeds” of 4 or 5 SECONDS, with several maxing out at 800 plus MS.
The network is crawling along – no NICs appear to be jabbering and no one protocol seems to dominate.
All desktops have TCP/IP running for the majority of programs and IPX/SPX for our Btrieve database and dos-based accounts package.
We connect to the internet via a WebRamp M3t gateway.
Any thoughts gratefully accepted – i will comment on all replies.
