Network Switch Set-Up Help

By dlcdjm ·
Currently I have the following:
Linksys BEFCMU10 Cable Modem connected to a D-Link DI-524 Wireless router with 4 computers hooked up to this router.

I needed to add more runs so I purchased a Linksys EZXS88W 8 Port Switch.

Here is my dilema.
How do I hook up this network switch? What cables go where and from what? Can I take the 4 current cables to the router and plug into the network switch.

After I do the hook-ups with cabeling, do I need to do anything in software set-up or will the whole think just plug in and work?

The documentation that came with the network switch is very confusing to me. It talks about Switch, Hub. and then uplink port and the port next to it being used or not being used.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Very easy

Just plug the four existing PC cables to the new switch in anything but the uplink port.

Plug one cable from the uplink port on the new switch to one of the now-empty lan ports on the existing router.

Should not need to do any configuration of any sort.

One tip is to buy some very short color coded patch cables....a one-foot red cable to go between the new switch and the router would be tidy and easy to identify down the road.

It's a little confusing because there is an 'uplink port' that is common with port 8 on that switch, so don't plug anything into that port 8 if you're using the uplink to go to your router.
