Try reposting this in the 'Q&A' forum. The 'Discussion' forum is for matters of general discussion, not specific problems in search of a solution. The 'Water Cooler' is for non-technical discussions. You can submit a question to 'Q&A' here:;content

There are TR members who specifically seek out problems in need of a solution. Although there is some overlap between the forums, you'll find more of those members in 'Q&A' than in 'Discussions' or 'Water Cooler'.

Be sure to use the voting buttons to provide your feedback. Voting a '+' does not necessarily mean that a given response contained the complete solution to your problem, but that it served to guide you toward it. This is intended to serve as an aid to those who may in the future have a problem similar to yours. If they have a ready source of reference available, perhaps won't need to repeat questions previously asked and answered. If a post did contain the solution to your problem, you can also close the question by marking the helpful post as "The Answer". .

The XP User Account you are using is it an Administrator or Limited User Account?

If it's a Limited User Account you need to log in with an Administrator Account to get the change to stick.

Also what type of LAN is this?

Is there a Domain or Workgroup involved here?

If it's a Domain what is the Server Application in use?

Post the above when you ask the question and someone here should be able to help you.

This is just a guess,

but maybe the machines that ask for a username and password have more than one user account on them.

Only 2 user

by tidasamith In reply to This is just a guess,

I have only two users include Administrator account. I have one PC, this PC is sharing file, and Printer, all the PC in my workgroup are access to this PC for file sharing and Printer, only a few PC that can't add the Network user account and password credential.
the way i add like this:
control panel --> user accounts--> select my current user account --> Manage my network passwords--> add -->
server =IP of pc that share file and printer
User name = workgroup\user account from sharing PC
password = password of the user account from sharing PC
after i have done, i try to access share file and printer no need type user name and password, but after i restart my PC i try to connect again it need the user and password.
in manage my network passwords nothing. all the user and password i have add is deleted. I don't know why
please help
