    Network using crossover UTP

    Locked

    by valhalla ·

I’m having trouble in sharing files on a network using crossover utp. One system is using windows XP and the other windows me. From the pc with XP I can see and access all the drives on the other pc but from the windows me I can not. I get a message that I do not have authorisation. The sharing of the drives on both pc’s is set to full with no passwords.

is it xp home or pro? no matter, i think you need to create a user account on the XP machine for the ME user. log onto XP machine as administrator and create the account. place the account in the local administrator group. use same username and password as ME uses to logon. if this this means nothing to you because you don’t logon with the ME machine, let me know and I(we)’ll help more if i can…

The first response is correct. You need to have the ME logon name as a user on XP. To do so go to control panel and open user accounts. Add the ME user by using that login name and password. For the shared folders you can right click go to sharing and in the rights tab you can select users that can have access. Not good to allow everyone to share the files, include users by name or group. Also you may need to check the firewall settings in XP.
