Network with a modem

can i connect two machines (win Me)through a modem without using a telephone.if yes please guide me how?

You can connect two pc's together throgh the SERIAL PORTS weith what was called a "Null Modem"...

You would need to do a search on google for "Null Modem"+sale to find someone who still makes such things. Otherwise, they will give you instructions on how to make one.

There is no such thing as pc-pc through telephone.

Best suggestion would be to buy a network card for each system, and a crossover cable. Connect the two pc's by the crossover cable and change your network settings to match. The last octet in the i.p. should be the only # different.

just adding that 2 computers connected via networks will transfer files at up to 100MB/s, while serial or parallel connections ar much much low.
