Hi all,
I have a network problem that’s driving me up the wall.
For whatever reason my home network crapped out and after hours I’ve only been able to get half of it working again.
Here’s the situation:
I have 2 Win98 machines, 1 Win 2k Pro machine, and a Win 2k Server on a home network.
As far as I can tell both 98 systems have the same settings.
All machines can ping all machines.
All machines can see the 2k server and all machines can see the 98 machines.
However: Only one 98Machine can see my 2k Pro machine.
Both 2k server and the other Win 98 machine list the 2k Pro in network neghborhood but \\2k-pro is cannot be reached
This is a simple p2p network. No DNS, DHCP, WINS etc. resolution.
All users are correctly entered under 2k server and 2k pro user databases.
I have attempted to use the LMHOSTS file to force the name resolution to no avail.
I tried to add NetBEUI protocol to the no-functioning 98 system as suggested and that made no difference. The only thing I can see that sets the working 98 machine apart from the rest is that there is an existing mapped network drive to my 2k pro system.
What else is there to try? Any and all suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
Brian Wright
