networking a computer or printer

By pdavis ·
My network consists of several VLans which does not let other computer see each other unless they are networked. Presently we are using a Microsoft Login for many of the machines but they are still not seeing each other on different VLANS. Help. I need to establish a functional network of computers which I can see and maintain. Do you recommend NOVELL or can I do this through Windows 2000.

Will they be in a domain or a workgroup? In a domain, you need to have a central server. Give each machine an IP address that is on the same subnet...ie...192.168.1.1 upto 192.168.1.254 all with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 Make your server the gateway. If you will be in a workgroup, the same rules apply without having one central server box. You will have to create a computer account for yourself on each of the machines in order to maintain them.
I hope this is what you were looking for.
Good luck!

Mike

Check out JetAdmin for HP. It does great for networking printers.
