    Ok…Here we go…

XP Pro connecting to XP Home. ip settings are 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3 respectively with subnet masks of 255.255.255.0. Using a cross over cable from one nic to the other. The folder from the one computer is shared to everyone on the network. Both assigned to the workgroup “MSHOME”.

Why can they not see each other???

    Am I missing something?

Check basic functionality first. Ping each from the other, you may have a 10/100 negotiation problem. If ping does not work, hard set both NICs to 100 / full duplex. Reboot and ping again. If no ping, then check the crossover cable. If you have a hub handy, use a couple of straight through cables.

      Then worry about MS settings….

Turn off the Firewall. It will block “file and printer sharing”. You do this by going into network properties on the nic cards
