networking in xp home edition

I have done a fresh install of windows xp home, and it detects my ethernet card, but I can’t get an internet connection. I have broadband going into a Lynxsis Cable/DSL Router and all the computers at home are networked into the router. The other computers are running 98. Any suggestions?
