Networking problem !!

By edmond_sng ·

I use cat6 x-over cable to connect a win2k laptop to a winXP pro pc. The 2 machines always fail to communicate with each other when the cable is plugged in at both end. Although the task bar showing that the 2 pcs are connected, user can't access the shared area. Is there any issues with networking XP and Win2k?

Please advise

Can you ping the pcs?
Are they both in the same work group (not necessarily required, but eases the testing).

win2K and XP comunicate just fine. The user account must exist on both computers. No blank Passwords. The folder(s) must be shared. Both machines should be on the same subnet if you are using IP.

To find the second computer when browsing \\IPaddress\sharename
