I have a problem with regards to networking some workstations here in the office. The network setup is basically a 4-port G-router w/ Wi/Fi connected to a number of hubs that connects the router to all 30+ workstations and on top of that our File/DNS/DHCP server(2003)is connected somewhere in those hubs. The problem/s are; One, I monitor the activity of the router by using ping and when many of the workstations are active and are connecting to the web, the router RTOs about every 5 minutes or so then I have to reset it and connection would be OK again. Is that normal in that kind of setup or is there something wrong that I need to fix/replace. Two, The IT guy before me set the IPs of majority of the workstations on static for “Ease of controlling”. Now, he resigned and many of the users are complaining about connection problems. I turned the IPs to Dynamic and most stations got its connection back except for some. Some stations can connect to the router/net folders but cant connect to the web. Other stations cant connect to both web and router. NOTE: The users say that the stations are working fine on dynamic IP until the guy before me changed it to static and now even the stations that were not touched cant connect to both web and LAN. Any solutions? I’m sorry to the experts who are reading. I was a hardware technician before this and I’m not very familiar w/ this level of networking. Hope you understand my situation.
